Hotel Columbia Telluride. It’s hard to go wrong with views of the mountains, the gondola, and the San Miguel River. The Victorian style has been replaced with cool contemporary. A 2009 remodeling completely changed the face of this Telluride favorite. Everything from the art on the walls to the flooring and the beds to the TVs has been replaced with pieces in a neutral palette of cool creams and toasty tans. Two of the suites even have hot tubs on their decks. The gracious staff will store your mountain bike or your skis, and with the gondola right there it’s easy to access just about anything. The in-house Cosmopolitan restaurant($$$$) is the town’s best option for elegant American food, and the complimentary breakfast there is above average. Pros: stunning views; charming, spacious rooms; convenient to gondola. Cons: some street noise, must keep your shutters closed or gondola riders can see right in.
